Little Britain returns to streaming services but faces backlash over 'racially-insensitive' scenes

Daily Mail

Little Britain is back on our screens after offensive blackface scenes were cut by producers, but questions have been raised over a handful of fringe non-PC characters who remain in the latest iteration of the show. Little Britain's most iconic roles, including Vicky Pollard and wheelchair user Andy, have been retained, alongside other characters including Lucas' homosexual Welshman Dafydd Thomas and Walliams' cross-dresser Emily Howard. In an October 2004 episode, David Walliams' university counsellor persona describes fictional character Kenneth Lao as a 'Ching Chong Chinaman' with 'yellow-ish skin and a slight smell of soy sauce' Patient Lou and benefits-cheat Andy Lou and Andy are an iconic duo who helped Little Britain shoot to success in the noughties. OUT: In 2020 Little Britain was removed from Netflix, BBC iPlayer and BritBox because the use of blackface characters on the series was deemed to no longer be acceptable Pictured: David Walliams in blackface as Desiree DeVere 'Thai bride' Ting Tong Macadangdang Matt Lucas portrays an overweight 'Thai bride' called Ting Tong who moves in with Walliams' smitten British fictional character Dudley. Following the publication of the new snaps ahead of Comic Relief this week, David's two million Instagram followers quickly went into a frenzy at the friends' reunion, with one posting: 'Bring back little Britain.'
