ABC

Sally Sara: A new national report has revealed that Indigenous children are almost 11 times more likely to be in out-of-home care compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts. Well, the Family Matters report talks to why it's happening and it shows that of the dollars invested in child protection, the vast majority goes to the non-Indigenous sector, big non-government companies, NGOs. It also shows the vast majority of that funding goes into removing children instead of the tiny little amount allocated for prevention, you know, looking after children, family services, keeping families together. Carly Williams: Well, this Family Matters report out today assesses how government funding is directed and found non-Indigenous, non-government organisations do have an oversized role in the child protection system.
