CDC to pregnant women: Get vaccinated against Covid-19
CNNCNN — The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an urgent recommendation Wednesday for pregnant women and those who have recently given birth to get vaccinated against coronavirus. “As of September 27, 2021, more than 125,000 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in pregnant people, including more than 22,000 hospitalized cases and 161 deaths,” it added. “Data from the COVID-19-Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network in 2021 indicate that approximately 97% of pregnant people hospitalized with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were unvaccinated,” the health alert said. “Vaccination coverage is highest among Asian people who are pregnant, but lower among Hispanic or Latino pregnant people, and lowest among Black pregnant people,” the CDC added in a statement. Last week, Dr. Dana Meaney Delman, the CDC’s lead on maternal immunization, told the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices about the worrying trends among pregnant women.
