State disaster fund use follows Centre's rules: Pinarayi Vijayan on High Court criticism
India TodayThe Kerala government has pledged full transparency in auditing the State Disaster Response Fund following the High Court’s strong dissatisfaction over the lack of clarity in its usage. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasised that the government is prepared to submit all accounts as directed by the court, but additional time is required to gather district and department-wise details. Responding to the High Court’s five critical questions, including the fund’s balance, commitments, and allocations for Wayanad, the Chief Minister clarified that Rs Rs 588.9 crore was available in the SDRF, including Rs 394.95 crore carried forward and Rs 140 crore from the Centre. The High Court, during Friday's hearing, strongly reprimanded the government, questioning the lack of clarity and asking its counsel, “Who are you trying to fool?” The court’s remarks come amid protests by both the CPI-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF in Wayanad, accusing the Centre of failing to provide adequate financial assistance for rehabilitation efforts.
