Amanda Staveley's battle with Barclays nears judgment day

The Telegraph

Nestled among Hallowe’en-dressed partygoers in Mayfair nightclub Annabel’s during the 2008 financial crisis sat a group of dealmakers celebrating a very different occasion to the rest of the crowd. Amanda Staveley was among a well-connected club of financiers who orchestrated a £5.8bn cash injection from the Middle East for Barclays just as Britain’s banking sector was on the brink of collapse. The deal, completed in just 10 days, saved the bank from its own Hallowe’en horror – a government bailout – and landed Staveley £30m worth of fees. Her client Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who she had just helped to buy Manchester City Football Club, had become Barclays’ largest shareholder after contributing £3.5bn to the deal.
