Sreekandan warns against new brewery

Sreekandan, MP, said here on Friday that the private brewery sanctioned by the State government at Kanjikode would not be allowed to function in Palakkad’s soil. “We will launch an agitation against the move to start a new brewery and distillery in Palakkad, which is already facing extreme shortage of water,” said Mr. Sreekandan. “This was the government that said that it would stop proliferation of liquor outlets when it came to power.” Mr. Sreekandan warned that the government had given permission for another alcohol manufacturer to begin a brewery in the same panchayat. Karshaka Congress district president B. Iqbal said here on Friday that the proposed brewery and ethanol plant at Kanjikode would help deteriorate the water shortage in the district.
