Nigerian-led gang dupes social media users of Rs 1.5 crore with 'herbal product' scheme
India TodayDelhi Police have busted a gang of fraudsters who duped people by pretending to be employees of a UK-based pharmaceutical firm. In his statement to the Delhi Police, the complainant alleged that he was duped by an unknown person who identified himself on Facebook as the executive of a UK-based pharma company called 'Caso Pharmaceutical'. During their correspondence, the accused told the complainant that his company is looking to import a herbal product called 'Novaldic Nut Plant' which he claimed grows only in Mizoram. The accused then made the fictitious claim that the government of India has barred his pharma company to buy this herbal product directly from the farmers in Mizoram. Once they managed to win over the trust of their victim, the tricksters would urge him/her to buy the herbal product in large quantities in order to be able to sell it to their 'UK-based' pharma company for a profit of 500 per cent.
