Four-day junior doctors’ strike is ‘most worrying’ in NHS history
The TelegraphPatient safety will be at risk during 10 days of NHS chaos as the longest junior doctors strike in history clashes with Easter holidays, health leaders have warned. Layla McCay, the policy director at NHS Confederation, which represents trusts and health authorities, said hospitals had “never worried about a strike as much”, warning that many consultants who would normally cover are away for the Easter holidays. She said there was huge uncertainty over whether critical shifts would be filled, telling Sky News: “The strike is longer than we’ve experienced and it’s attached to the Easter weekend and the weekend after that, meaning that they are very much expecting to see this disruption over 10 or 11 days. “Our members, who are healthcare leaders across the whole system, tell us they have never worried about a strike as much as they’re worried about this one, they think that the impact could be really, really significant.
