Qualified Homeopathic Doctors Can Prescribe Preventive And Add On Medicines To Covid 19 Patients: Kerala High Court

The Kerala High Court recently held that qualified homeopathic doctors can dispense prescribed adjuvant medicines for Covid-19 patients apart from the preventive medicines, citing that there is no prohibition imposed by the Government of India on Homoeopathy for treatment of patients in its AYUSH recommendations. The petition contends that there was nothing prohibiting qualified medical AYUSH practitioners to prescribe immunity booster mixture or tablets suggested by the Ministry of AYUSH, which also includes homoeopathy practitioners The Ministry of AYUSH had issued a circular dated March 6 2020 authorising the use of certain medicines for symptom management and preventive measures for Covid 19 like illnesses. The Takeaway From The Judgment At the outset, the High Court decided upon the extent to which homoeopathic practitioners can treat Covid-19 patients prescribing homoeopathic medicines. While modifying the decision of the Kerala High Court, it was observed that what is permissible for homoeopathic practitioners while treating Covid-19 patients is already regulated by the advisories and guidelines.
