Manchester City and Liverpool dish up latest thriller but there are plenty of ups and downs to come
Daily MailJurgen Klopp puffed out his cheeks and listed the run of games stretching out ahead of Liverpool. At half-time — with Klopp’s team 3-0 ahead thanks to Ibrahima Konate’s header and two Sadio Mane goals — it felt as though we were witnessing a change in the momentum of the season. But by full-time, Guardiola’s team had clawed back ground not only in the game as Liverpool hung on desperately, but in what is a psychological battle also. Klopp would not hear talk of a mental shift in favour of his team while Guardiola only conceded: ‘Maybe if we meet in Paris.’ There is much football to be played before then. Wednesday's attritional night in Madrid certainly took its toll on Guardiola's squad Liverpool were exceptional in the first half but City were flat, leggy and error-prone.
