South Africa eyes first hometown title since 2015 at Cape Town Sevens

Associated Press

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Argentina’s reign of the Cape Town Sevens was ended by South Africa after scrumhalf Ricardo Duarttee put on a show on Saturday. Duarttee had a hand in four of South Africa’s five tries in the 29-5 win at DHL Stadium. That clinched the pool for South Africa and a spot in the men’s semifinals on Sunday of the hometown event it hasn’t won since 2015. In the semifinals, South Africa will face Spain, which proved its historic run to the Dubai final was no fluke by beating Kenya and Australia, and Fiji plays France.
