Shota Imanaga stars in major league debut as Cubs beat Rockies 5-0 in Wrigley Field opener
Associated PressCHICAGO — For his warmup music ahead of his first major league start, Shota Imanaga picked The Fratellis’ “Chelsea Dagger” — the goal-scoring song for the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. Imanaga pitched six sparkling innings in his major league debut, and the Cubs used another defensive mistake by Nolan Jones to beat the Colorado Rockies 5-0 on Monday. “What he did really well today is something that he’s always done well is he threw a ton of strikes,” said manager Craig Counsell, who won his home debut with Chicago after he was hired in November. “And it might have not been the best pitch regards to pitch speed, but getting the support from the fans I was able to get that strikeout.” Colorado got its first baserunner when Kris Bryant reached on third baseman Morel’s error in the second.
