Army airlifts bodies of 2 officers killed in gunfight for homage in Srinagar
India TodayThe Indian Army on Thursday airlifted the bodies of Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonchack of 19 Rashtriya Rifles to Srinagar where a homage will be paid to them on Thursday evening, senior army officials told India Today. The two officers, along with Deputy Superintendent Humayun Muzamil Bhat, were killed in an encounter on Wednesday in J&K's Anantnag district. Earlier, the Indian Army's Chinar Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai, and Victor Force Commander, Major General Balbir Singh, also visited the encounter site and boosted the morale of the personnel deployed in the operations. Anantnag Encounter On Wednesday, two Indian Army officers, Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, and a Deputy Superintendent of J&K Police, Humayun Muzamil Bhat, lost their lives following a gunfight that broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
