How ‘Parks and Recreation’ gave Indy pros a shot at acting
New York TimesDetlef Schrempf had no acting experience and wasn’t looking to get into show business when he was presented with an opportunity. “I think that year they kind of struggled and they weren’t sure they were going to get picked up again for next year so the final episodes was a telethon,” Schrempf recalled. “And then once I get there, they start writing in some other scenes where I’m sitting in a car going into the nightclub and having a beer.” In the episode, Tom Haverford, played by actor Aziz Ansari, is Schrempf’s 5-foot-6 bodyguard and picks him up at the airport. “It’s such a huge production when you look at what goes into shooting an episode, how many people are there behind the scenes, how many writers,” he said. His last cameo — in “Ron and Tammys,” Episode 2 of Season 4 — was Roy Hibbert’s first experience in acting.
