MPs debate ‘far reaching’ curfew plans, breaking the rule will mean a €95 fine

Dutch News

MPs are continuing to debate the caretaker cabinet’s decision to introduce a curfew in the Netherlands in an effort to keep more virulent strains of coronavirus at bay. NOS political correspondent Ron Frensen said it is likely parliament will back the idea of a curfew, although MPs are likely to want to move the start time from 8.30 pm to later in the evening as a compromise. During the debate, a number of MPs raised concerns about the impact of a curfew on people who are already feeling more lonely and depressed because of the current restrictions. Fines Justice minister Ferd Grapperhaus told MPs the list of exceptions to the curfew had been deliberately kept as short as possible to ensure as many people as possible comply.
