Stars’ power-play ineptitude is beyond a slump — it’s a cause for concern
New York TimesYear to year, things change with the Dallas Stars, but you have to give them credit for keeping one thing consistent: They’re never boring. Only one other team has played at least five games since the Stars returned from the All-Star break on Feb. 6 and failed to score on the power play. Since Jan. 1, the Bruins are 26th in the NHL on the power play at 15.4 percent, just barely better than the Stars’ 9.8 percent. In the first 38 games of the season — the 2022 portion of the schedule, through Dec. 31 — the Stars were 28.8 percent on the power play, which was second-best in the NHL behind only McDavid’s Oilers. Through 38 games this season, Dallas had the second-best power play in the league at 28.8 percent; since then, they’re 30th in the league at 9.8 percent.
