BBMP to transfer all borewells and RO units to BWSSB; orders survey of RO plants

With the Cauvery Stage V water project already operational, the responsibility for drinking water supply will be fully transferred to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board from April 1, 2025. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has initiated the transfer of borewells under its ownership to BWSSB and will also hand over drinking water units. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has directed officials to conduct a survey of all Reverse Osmosis water units within the BBMP limits and submit a report. Talking to reporters on Monday, he stated that officials have been instructed to assess the number of functional and non-functional RO plants across BBMP’s eight zones and submit a report within a week. A special drive is being conducted across all BBMP zones to identify unregistered properties, aiming to add one lakh properties to the tax database, which could generate an estimated ₹100 crore in revenue.
