AASU, NESO observe black day to protest against CAA
India TodayVarious organisations in Northeast India will re-launch agitation programmes to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act from Friday. The North East Students’ Organization will observe Friday as black day across the region as a sign of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019. NESO, which comprises the All Assam Students’ Union, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, Khasi Students' Union, Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Garo Students’ Union, Naga Students' Federation, Twipra Student Federation and All Manipur Students' Union, will display black flags and banners at all the important locations in seven states of the Northeast region. NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa said, “Despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous people of the region against the bill, the Centre had passed the controversial legislation in the Rajya Sabha on December 11 last year and NESO will observe this day as black day.” All Assam Students’ Union will display black flags and black banners in Guwahati and other district, sub-division headquarters in Assam. Apart from AASU, NESO, Krishak Muti Sangram Samiti will also re-launch its agitation programme against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 across the state from December 12.
