Two pilots to stand trial over alleged plan to bring drugs from PNG

ABC

Two pilots will stand trial in the Supreme Court in Queensland for their alleged involvement in orchestrating a "black flight" to bring $15 million worth of drugs into Australia. The pilots, Bernard Hamilton Alexander and John Otto Horvath, were among five New South Wales men arrested in the rural town of Monto, about 500 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, on March 21, 2023 when they landed to allegedly refuel their light plane. The Australian Federal Police has alleged the pilots flew the plane to Papua New Guinea the previous day to collect 52 kilograms of methamphetamine and returned on a so-called black flight at a low altitude and with its transponder turned off. The AFP said its officers found five duffel bags containing the drugs concealed in the plane.
