Bangladesh's election sees the nation's iron lady Sheikh Hasina tighten her grip on power
ABCWhen Mohammad Sajal Hussain's father died in custody under suspicious circumstances, he didn't tell anyone. His father, Fazlur Rahman Kajol, was picked up by police two months ago in mass arrests targeting thousands of opposition activists rallying against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government. For more than three decades, Mr Rahman had been an outspoken organiser of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party The BNP is the main opposition to Ms Hasina's Awami League Party, which secured another five years in government in this weekend's controversial election. Daughter of Bangladesh's founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Ms Hasina's political career began in the late 1960s when she served as his political messenger while he was in detention. Sheikh Hasina's critics say the country's institutions have been captured by the government and the vote is rigged.
