Ricky Ponting hits back at Ollie Robinson and shuts down Kevin Pietersen
The TelegraphFormer Australia captain Ricky Ponting has hit back at England bowler Ollie Robinson for his foul-mouthed send-off to Usman Kawaja, after being dragged into the fiercely debated talking point of the first Ashes Test. Robinson was at the centre of an Australian media storm when he was picked up on live footage celebrating the first innings dismissal of Khawaja bay showering him in ‘spray’. In his press conference after the third day’s play, the England seam bowler refused to apologise for yelling at the Australian opener “f--- off, you f------ p----” in celebration of the wicket. “The only thing I‘d say with Ollie is Khawaja was on 140, Robinson hadn’t looked like getting a wicket all day, and he’s just sledged probably the nicest man that’s ever walked on the planet.” Robinson had dragged Ponting into the debate by referencing his famous 2005 blow-up during the Ashes when explaining that English players had been dealing with Australian ‘spray’ for decades.
