Virat Kohli no longer the numero uno of Indian cricket: A mixed bag in 2021
India TodayIt is safe to say that Virat Kohli had been the most influential person in Indian cricket. While Virat Kohli led the team to their first-ever Test series win Down Under in 2018-19, India did it without their influential leader in 2020-21 as Kohli had returned home on paternity leave after India's defeat in the first Test in Adelaide wherein they were bundled out for their lowest-ever Test total of 36. India took on New Zealand in the World Test Championship final in Southampton, which was another opportunity for Kohli to prove his naysayers wrong and win an ICC title as captain. India took an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the Test series in England but Kohli's batting form showed no signs of improvement. WHEN KOHLI QUIT T20I, IPL CAPTAINCY When India players headed to the UAE for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season in September, Kohli made an unforeseen announcement as he said he would quit India's T20I captaincy after the World Cup in the UAE in October-November.
