BMTC pushes digital payments by implementing static UPI QR codes in buses
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation has made strides in enhancing cashless travel by implementing static UPI QR codes in 75% of its bus fleet. BMTC officials said that UPI transactions now contribute 20% of the corporation’s daily ticket revenue, amounting to approximately ₹60 lakh daily. Digital payments not only streamline the ticketing process but also ensure greater transparency,” said a senior BMTC official. While the QR code option is a good initiative, the National Common Mobility Card should be encouraged for greater convenience.” Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has also embraced cashless payment systems in its bus services, starting November 2024.
