Aussies slam unhinged Christmas Day celebration at Bronte Beach after thousands of revellers leave behind trail of rubbish for a second year in a row - as shocking images reveal extent of chaos

Daily Mail

Disgusted Aussies have slammed the trail of destruction left by thousands of boozed-up Christmas day revellers at a popular Sydney beach. Thousands of revellers have descended onto Bronte Beach for an annual Christmas Day party which resulted in the area being trashed like previous years Shocking pictures taken on Boxing Day morning have revealed scenes of utter chaos and carnage at Bronte Beach in the city's exclusive eastern suburbs Thousands of cans, beer and wine bottles, discarded cardboard boxes and empty cooler bags were seen strewn across the usually-pristone grass behind the small beach One bikini-clad partygoer was pictured sleeping underneath a towel amid the mess as council rangers estimated at least ten thousand tourists and backpackers had been in attendance 'It's normally cleaned up by this time of day in the past but yesterday was the biggest crowd I've seen here,' she said. Council workers had scrambled to cater for the huge numbers after the mess left last year sparked outrage among the well-heeled locals who call Bronte home An extra 250 bins were placed at Bronte Beach and extra toilets and a urinal were installed to deal with the onslaught But the measures appear to have had little effect as the area was completely tarnished on Thursday morning One Aussie fumed that those 'who left Bronte Beach looking like a f***ing landfill tip are a disgrace, as is the council not providing enough bins & police not enforcing crowd control' Another local slammed Waverley City Council mayor Will Nemesh for allowing 'persistent public drinking and its associated behaviour', branding it 'deeply concerning'. One man suffered serious head injuries when he slipped while trying to jump off a cliff into Bronte Ocean Pool A medical team was dispatched via helicopter and the man was rushed to St Vincent's hospital in a serious condition Among the vast numbers of foreign bikini and boardie-clad visitors this year was former England Test cricket captain Michael Vaughan. By mid-afternoon Bronte beach was shoulder-to-shoulder with people escaping the heat with a cool drink or a swim New clean-up measures will be implemented this year after rubbish was left at Bronte Park last Christmas Day leaving council workers and local groups to clean up the mess NSW Police said officers conducted patrols of Bronte, Bondi and Tamarama beaches 'due to significant crowd numbers expected over the holiday period'.
