Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday clarified that his recent apology was not directed at "terrorists" but at the people who have been suffering and displaced due to the ongoing ethnic violence. On December 31, Chief Minister Biren Singh apologised for the 20-month-long ethnic violence that claimed over 250 lives, urging all communities to "forgive and forget" the past. On December 31, the Manipur Chief Minister said, "I want to say sorry for what happened in the state. Hours after Biren Singh's apology, the Congress hit out at the BJP, questioning why Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot visit Manipur and apologise to the people.
