Priyanka Gandhi, Anurag Thakur part of Parliamentary panel on One Poll bills
India TodayAs many as 21 Lok Sabha MPs, including Congress's Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, NCP leader Supriya Sule and BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs are part of the joint parliamentary committee that will study the One Nation One Election bills that were tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. The constitution of members in the JPC came a day after Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced in the Lok Sabha the constitutional amendment bills for simultaneously holding Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections. The BJP hit back at the Opposition, arguing that holding simultaneous elections would save costs, tackle voter fatigue and ensure governance continuity. However, following the dissolution of some legislative Assemblies in 1968 and 1969 and that of the Lok Sabha in December 1970, elections were held separately, an exercise which is continuing since then.
