Habitat loss, food scarcity key factors in decline of Long-billed Vulture: Study
Hindustan TimesHabitat loss, food scarcity, and the use of anti-inflammatory drugs are key factors responsible for the decline of the critically endangered Long-billed Vulture population, a new study has revealed. The study, led by Assistant Professor Ram Prakash Saran from the Department of Zoology, Jai Narain Vyas University, along with research scholars Ashok Kumar Panchal and Ramesh Choudhary, focused on the distribution and nesting sites of the Long-billed vulture in the region. “The significant decline in the vulture population is attributed to multiple factors, including habitat loss, food scarcity, and the use of anti-inflammatory drugs. “Long-billed Vultures thrive in environments where there is access to both food and water,” said Saran, stressing the urgent need for conservation efforts to ensure the survival of this iconic species.
