Sudan warring generals agree to new 72-hour truce after fighting intensifies
FirstpostSudan’s warring generals agreed to a fresh 72-hour truce beginning Sunday, according to US and Saudi mediators, after combat escalated with fatal air strikes near Khartoum and an evacuation of wounded from Darfur into Chad. A citizens’ organisation said air strikes killed 17 people, including five children, in the capital on Saturday, while doctors in Chad reported hundreds of wounded from Darfur seeking care. Residents had earlier reported air strikes around the city’s southern Yarmouk district – home to a weapons manufacturing and arms depot complex where the RSF claimed “full control” in early June. On Thursday, the State Department attributed the atrocities in Darfur “primarily” to the RSF and said the violence and alleged rights violations are an “ominous reminder” of the region’s previous genocide.
