The former chancellor backs the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill and said recently: “Northern Ireland’s economy is being dragged out of the orbit of the UK, and that’s wrong, and as prime minister I want to fix that.” He has also said that as prime minister he would deliver a “better UK alternative” to the EU’s Horizon funding programme, accusing the EU of “playing politics” on UK access to the scheme. Liz Truss: The Foreign Secretary would scrap what she calls “Stalinist” housing targets in favour of tax cuts and deregulation.
