Average commute time for car users in Bengaluru is minimum of one hour when covering 10 kilometres, finds Personal2Public survey report
The HinduIn Bengaluru, the average commute time for car users is typically observed to be a minimum of one hour when covering a standard travel distance of 10 kilometres while the car users spend about 1-1.5 hours in one direction as compared to 35-40 minutes by two-wheelers, according to a report which is part of the Personal2Public campaign launched by NGOs, including the Bangalore Political Action Committee and WRI India, released on Monday. Sustainable Transportation Lab, said that for Bengaluru to have a sustainable mobility system, the city needs to achieve at least 80% daily trip mode share on public transport, walking, and cycling together. “If the metro provided safe bicycle parking in metro stations we will be able to solve the first mile problem at zero cost compared to any other shared mode.” Meanwhile, the State government which has taken up various initiatives to solve the city’s civic mobility issues under “Brand Bengaluru” initiative, will go through the P2P survey report. Rajeev Gowda, Vice-Chairman of the State Institute for Transformation of Karnataka and member of the Brand Bengaluru Committee, said, “It is good that the civic groups have come up with the survey report and surely we will have the discussion around the recommendation suggested in the survey with various government civic authorities.”
