Pandas fail to save Adelaide Zoo from debt

Adelaide Zoo is getting a $2 million lifeline to help it cope with rising debt. South Australian Environment Minister Paul Caica has told Parliament the zoo's debt totals more than $24 million. He says getting two giant pandas from China has failed to attract the sponsorship and visitors needed to cover higher operating costs. "We already enjoy enormous support from the community and we have a very high membership, but I would say to people 'If you want us to continue to have one of the best zoo-based conservation organisations in the world then come in, visit, support us, become part of our programs'."
