Seahawks’ offense gets explosive, CB battle heats up and more from win vs. Cowboys
New York TimesSEATTLE — If the Seattle Seahawks’ first preseason game was a showcase of the young guys, then the second contest, played Saturday night against the Dallas Cowboys at Lumen Field, was about the contributions — or lack thereof — from the players guaranteed to be on the field when the games count. Offense gets explosive Geno Smith and Seattle’s starting offensive line played two series in the first quarter. Cornerback battle heats up Seattle’s starting defense featured cornerbacks Tre Brown and Michael Jackson, inside linebackers Patrick O’Connell and Devin Bush Jr., outside linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe, defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones and Jarran Reed, safeties Coby Bryant and Julian Love, and nickel Jonathan Sutherland. “He continues to play well,” Carroll said, also admitting that Jackson had some plays he’ll want back. “Hopefully we keep everybody going.” Seattle got only eight snaps from Reed at nose tackle, but he did manage to record a splash play in that limited playing time, beating left guard Brock Hoffman for a sack to kill Dallas’ first drive.
