US President Joe Biden has issued a call for global action to combat the climate crisis, which he called a threat to the “very life of the planet”. Speaking at the COP27 United Nations climate conference in Egypt on Friday, Biden announced new US initiatives and funding to help developing countries, including in Africa, adapt to environmental challenges. “From my first days in office, my administration has led with a bold agenda to address the climate crisis and increase energy security at home and around the world,” Biden said. Developing countries have been pushing for a “loss and damage” fund to help pay for the harms already inflicted by climate change, which is largely caused by disproportionately-high emissions from rich and industrial countries.
