PETER HOSKIN: Bumper year for gamers that's well worth waiting for

Within weeks, we're going to get a game so exciting and so delayed that I actually included it in my preview of 2021: Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, a PlayStation hit from 2017, and appears to surpass even that game's beauty and robo-dinosaur count. Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn Around the same time comes Elden Ring. From what I've played, Elden Ring is — in a good way — what you might expect from that combination: a dark fantasy that dares to makes demands of its players, and likely one of the best of the year. This takes one of Nintendo's cutesiest mascots — a pink, puffed-up beachball of a thing — and has him bouncing around a post-apocalyptic ruinscape.
