AP to implement 25 per cent quota for poor students in entry-level classes
VIJAYAWADA: AP government would implement RTE Section 12c) Act that mandates private, unaided, non-minority, recognized schools to reserve 25 per cent of the seats in their entry-level classes -- Nursery/ LKG or Class 1 -- for children from socially disadvantaged groups and economically weaker sections. Notably, advocate Thandava Yogesh had filed a petition in 2017 seeking the implementation of 25 per cent quota in the AP High Court and the verdict came in January, 2022 for its implementation. Chief Minister Jagan Reddy advised officials to implement the provisions of the RTE act including section 12 -- 25 per cent of the entry class seats in the private unaided schools in Andhra Pradesh. He said the government should have started a central admission portal, announced the admission schedule with all details and given wide publicity about the 25 per cent quota.
