Why Alabama’s last play vs. Michigan was stuffed: ‘They must have known it’

PASADENA, Calif. — With a spot in the national championship game on the line, Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter knew exactly who’d have the ball for Alabama: The Crimson Tide would live or die by quarterback Jalen Milroe. “We certainly thought he would have the ball.” A quarterback run through the heart of Michigan’s defense was snuffed out, sending the Wolverines to Houston next week and ending Alabama’s season a game short of its goal. “We really just thought anything under three to four, the ball’s going to be in Milroe’s hands,” Minter said. “First thing, I’m appreciative of my coaching staff for believing in me to have the ball in my hands on that last play,” Milroe said.
