Border check-posts to become virtual by April 1

A recent high-level meeting convened by officials at the Goods and Services Tax department, Motor Vehicles department, and the National Informatics Centre has prepared the guidelines for turning the border check-post into virtual check-posts by April 1. As part of this, the Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras installed at major GST check-posts to verify e-way bill compliance of goods vehicles will be linked to the Vahan website of the MVD. The NIC will also provide a mobile app for the MVD, which will in turn alert the MVD officials if a tax-evading vehicle enters the State through any of the virtual border check posts. A recent surprise raids carried out by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau at the MVD check-posts in Palakkad from January 10 to 13 yielded ₹3.26 lakh in unaccounted money.
