The Broncos’ Aaron Rodgers watch, rookie battles and more: 10 questions for training camp

New York Times

The Broncos ended the spring portion of their offseason work 12 days ago with the general manager at the bottom of a dunk tank, the quarterback burying 3-pointers and players from all position groups taking part in a tug of war marathon. The Broncos, coach Vic Fangio said earlier this month, will consider the four-week stretch that covers training camp and the three-game preseason as “97 to 98 percent” of the evaluation for the team’s starting quarterback competition. The Broncos will be looking for those early signals in training camp as they wait to see whether this year’s investment in one of the franchise’s most iconic players will pay off. Fangio said Sutton will be ready for those sessions when camp begins and will not start on the physically unable to perform list, “but we’ll be managing him.” Fangio expects other players who missed minicamp — either because of minor injuries or by virtue of being in late stages of rehab — to be on the field without restrictions when camp begins. Last season, the Broncos’ first four picks — Jerry Jeudy, Hamler, Lloyd Cushenberry and Ojemudia — all played at least 48 percent of the snaps on their respective sides of the ball.
