LA TimesLos Angeles County could lose $4.6 billion to $8.9 billion in economic output over the next five years from the Palisades and Eaton fires, a Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. study released Thursday predicts. Employment losses in Los Angeles county could reach up to 49,110 job-years based on recovery time, the study said, with labor losses ranging from $1.9 billion to $3.7 billion. Los Angeles County industries that will take the brunt of the economic damage include real estate and rentals, retail trade, and professional and scientific technical services. Property damage, which was analyzed by counting 20,218 land parcels within the burn area, could range from $28 billion to $53.8 billion based on how long recovery lasts, the study said.
