First Love, France and other titles to watch this weekend

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse Beautiful, lyrical, with gorgeous animation and simple life lessons, this short film is a BBC adaptation of Charlie Mackesy's best-selling book. First Love "Falling in love was laughably easy," says Haumichi Namki about his first love Yae Noguchi, whom he met in high school in the 1990s. Based on pop icon Hikaru Utada's songs First Love and Hatsukoi, the Japanese drama series follows the ups and downs in the lead pair's lives as they go their separate ways—Yae suffers a memory loss. At nine episodes, and spanning two decades, it's a slog, but there's a certain earnestness and gentleness about the love story and its lead characters.
