Webb reveals colossal size of asteroid once feared to collide with Earth

Nasa’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured the first detailed images of asteroid 2024 YR4, a near-Earth object roughly 60 meters tall, comparable to a 15-story building. Initially flagged as a potential impact threat in 2032, Nasa has since confirmed that the asteroid poses no significant risk to Earth, with its collision probability reduced to near-zero following updated calculations earlier this year. NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope recently captured these images of the asteroid 2024 YR4. “While we’re confident that 2024 YR4 won’t hit Earth in 2032, studying its characteristics helps us better understand similar-sized objects that could pose future threats,” he explained.
