Rangers, with Jaroslav Halak, beat Senators: Five takeaways from a must-win game
New York TimesThe Rangers absolutely had to have this one. Gallant and Allaire can go back to Shesterkin on Friday when the Senators come to town, Halak gets Saturday against the Hawks and then whoever’s going well gets Monday’s visit from the Blues. Also Halak joined a pretty large list with Wednesday’s win — he’s the 10th goalie to win a game for the Rangers and Islanders. When Kravtsov was about to be scratched yet again on Monday, Dan Milstein returned a text with a question about whether he and Drury have discussed Kravtsov’s situation with a polite “no comment.” Given the history between player and organization, it was fair to wonder whether Kravtsov might ask out yet again as the Rangers struggled to win games, score goals and hold leads while the 23-year-old didn’t play. And lastly, the very long trivia answer — the nine goalies besides Halak who have won games for both the Rangers and Islanders: John Vanbiesbrouck, Kevin Weekes, Steve Weeks, Mike Dunham, Jamie McLennan, Glenn Healy, Martin Biron, Chad Johnson and The Garden Faithful podcast’s own Steve Valiquette!
