Sensex, Nifty close flat; IT leads way, rupee hits record low
India TodayBenchmark stock market indices closed flat on Tuesday, despite gains in IT and FMCG sector stocks as investors remained cautious. On the downside, Bharti Airtel declined 1.40%, Dreddy decreased 1.33%, Adani Ports lost 1.17%, Adani Enterprises fell 1.14%, and HDFC Life dropped 1.09%. VLA Ambala Co-Founder of Stock Market Today said that Sensex and Nifty traded cautiously within a narrow range for most of Tuesday’s trading session ahead of the upcoming US and India CPI data. During the session, the Indian rupee fell to a new record low of INR 84.85 per USD, and the 10-year bond yield declined by 2 bps to 6.6954%," she added. The IT sector tends to benefit from dollar-denominated revenues, so further rupee depreciation and favourable global market conditions could boost bottom lines because of the potential profit margin.
