Real-time monitoring and networking system implemented in Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary
The HinduAfter successfully implementing a real-time monitoring and networking system in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Thekkady, the Periyar Tiger Conservation Foundation has implemented the system in the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary under the Thiruvananthapuram Forest Division. It is a wireless system designed to provide communication facilities to forest staff and live streaming of cameras from remote areas within the forest making use of radio wave technology. According to a Forest department official, the system is useful in human-wildlife conflict areas for detecting wildlife presence, monitoring of animals, forest fire surveillance, and conservation. These cameras can be controlled from the Kannithadam section office, Peppara range headquarters, and the wildlife warden’s office in Thiruvananthapuram, enabling real-time monitoring,” he says.
