Steps under way to address drinking water shortage in Kochi, says Kerala Water Resources Minister

Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine has assured that effective steps are being taken to address drinking water shortage in Kochi and surrounding regions. Responding to a calling attention motion in the Assembly by T.J. Vinod, MLA, demanding a 190-MLD water treatment plant in Aluva, the Minister said the government had sanctioned the project for execution by the Kerala Water Authority under the Asian Development Bank-Kerala Urban Water Supply Improvement Project. “Kochi relies heavily on water from four treatment plants in Aluva, which together supply 225 million litres per day. The government had allocated ₹2,511 crore for modernising water supply schemes in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Augustine said.
