Why Facebook pop-up notification asking iOS 14.5 users to allow tracking to keep it free of charge is scary
Apple introduced its newest privacy feature called App Tracking Transparency to iPhones and iPads with the iOS 14.5 update late last week. Facebook and Instagram have started showing prompts to iOS users who recently updated to iOS 14.5 with a notice on screen with a plea highlighting that surveilling users helps keep these services free. In a similar worded prompt, Facebook and Instagram talking about how iOS 14.5 requires app developers to ask for permission to track data from the device to improve ads. "At Facebook, we use data to provide personalised ads, which support small businesses and help keep apps free," the company said in the blog, again reiterating how tracking its users is helping it keep the apps free. The new scare tactic by Facebook tells us one clear thing that the social media giant really wants users who upgrade to iOS 14.5 to enable app tracking.
