Reef stars resurrect coral fields on Great Barrier Reef — with help from some local expertise

Coral fields destroyed by weather and bleaching have been growing back at "very successful" rates thanks to some simple seabed technology and local expertise. "Everyone we've shown these reef stars to is totally amazed at how we transform one habitat into another, and the variety of corals and the health of corals present in a short period of time," he said. "For any sort of site-assisted recovery technique on the Great Barrier Reef, they've become the poster boy." Rubble barney Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef chief executive Andy Ridley says the stars are one of the more successful conservation projects on the reef. "They have been through to so-called mini cyclones, and we have seen no movement of the reef stars and hardly any mortality to those corals," Mr Fisher said.
