Energy projects in Tasmania would be fast tracked under proposed law changes
ABCLarge renewable energy projects will automatically be eligible to go through the state's major project framework, bypassing local council processes, under a Tasmanian government plan to fast track proposals. The government argues the majority of large-scale renewable energy projects are already assessed by the state's Planning Commission, and the move to streamline the planning pathway would reduce assessment times "by about two months", plus reduce the financial burden for proponents. Government hopes to build more renewable energy projects Four of the six projects currently going through the major project process are energy developments, including the Cellars Hill wind farm project, which was declared a major project by the government on Wednesday. "And that's why, as a government, we are continuing to lean into doing what we can to make our renewable energy projects get to market, because it is hugely important."
