A battle is brewing over a proposal for a new source of water in the South Bay

Like a crashing wave, the fight over desalination has finally arrived in Los Angeles County. “The reason we’re here is West Basin Municipal Water District is proposing a … desal plant,” said Bruce Reznik, head of Los Angeles Waterkeeper. The proposed sight of the West Basin Municipal Water District water desalination facility on the NRG power generating station campus in El Segundo. “It’s human nature to start second-guessing yourself.” General Manager Rich Nagel explains how the microfiltration process works at the West Basin Municipal Water District water recycling facility in El Segundo. If West Basin’s environmental impact report fails to analyze water recycling as an alternative to desalination, “we’re going to sue,” Reznik said.
