Geva Mentor’s blueprint to shake up netball

It would begin with smarter scheduling, she says. ‘Superleague needs more top internationals’ “One area of improvement that we can get in England is having more top internationals playing within our league,” she says. “Next year I’ll just be playing domestically, with no England contract, so I’m now going to have to find a source of income that will support myself the rest of the year, outside my eight-month contract., I could be playing for the Magpies at the beginning of the year, and then the Rhinos for the second half. That would be one area that I would start to look at, to make the league here more professional.” Alongside that, she wants better umpiring to match the player standards on court and also says rethinking netball’s infrastructure – like the size of home venues – would lend itself to growth. I’ll be really interested, coming back next year, just seeing where the Superleague fits in terms of people’s attitude as they prepare week-to-week.
